What to expect with my new 80 300d
 

I just purchased my second Mercedes. An always garaged,no rust, pristine 1980 300d with 206,000 miles. I have all the original service records and am now the proud second owner. Everything works great but the previous owner sold it to me for $1500 because the climate control servo was out. What should I expect with this car as common problems? How about changing the climat control servo out to get my A/C and heater back on? Is it that difficult?

Its not difficult to replace the climate control servo, just a little expensive, about $400. But since you paid so little for the car, You should make the investment.

Yes I agree I got a great deal. Will I lose any r12 in the process of changing the servo? Also are there any good sources for used or rebuilt units?

The climate control servo is the big plastic box in the engine bay right above the exhaust with electric, vacuum, and coolant lines running through it. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, doesn't it?

Refrigerant does not run through it, so you won't lose any.

I found a used climate control servo from a 78 450SEL, Will this work?

As far as I know, all the servos are the same and will interchange. However, I wish to reiterate. Vacuum, electricity, and water all in a plastic box with a major heat source nearby. Do you really expect the used one to work any better that the one you already have?

.Will this unit being out cause everything not to work(heat, Defrost, AC, blower motor)? I am totally new to climate control. My 77 450sl has the slide levers?

Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like she was well cared for. As you probably know those early climate control systems were not the best to begin with and expensive to replace. you might keep in the back of your mind there is a way to bypass it so you can have all the functions. I dont know how as I dont have climate control but my MB mechanic / friend does, so I,m sure people on this list do to. I know you want to get things going right but if you get tired of messing with it :mad: there is another way :D
