Transmission Shifting Questions???
First off i am curious what people mean when they say their trans is flaring?
This is how my trans shifts. From 1st to 2nd it shifts kinda hard around 3000rpm. From 2nd to 3rd it shifts kinda hard around 3800rpm. From 3rd to 4th it won't shift no matter how high I take the rpms unless I let off the gas a little. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks a lot! John

As I understand it, flaring is when the shifting takes too
long and the motor revs up because it has no load on it. It is as if the trans was in neutral momentarily. I'm pretty sure that your 3-4 shift can be improved by slackened the cable (Bowden cable I have heard it called) that goes from the trans to the linkage atop the valve cover. There is a white plastic nut near where it hooks up at the linkage and sometimes this can be turned by hand or use a 13 or 14mm to turn the nut so the cable has less tension. Try two turns, and see how it shifts. If you turn it too much the trans will shift through the gears too fast and not downshift. Two turns should give you an idea of the consequence of this adjustment, and you can adjust to your liking from there. |

Thanks for the advice. I'll try that today and let you know what happens. It is possible because I did fiddle with it a little bit and might have tightened it up too much. Thanks John
