Euro 300D Tranny question

Please give me your opinion and advice about fitting a used 4-speed manual tranny from an 83 240D to my 1982 Euro 300D (non-turbo)...how would the performance compare with that of the 300D manual 4-speed? (I have established that the 240D tranny was also used when it was installed.)

Tranny numbers:
300D: 716005-00-921570
240D: 716210-00-004122

My preference would be a 5-speed manual, but have had no luck so far in finding one (I will post to the parts forum).

Re-building the existing tranny is an option, but more expensive than the used one, assuming the used one is in good condition.
