1986 190D turbo

I got my vin and looked it up. Said"1986 190D turbo diesel 2.5 liter" I thought that they ONLY came in 1987 models but I guess they did make them in 1986. Check the vin yourself(WDBDB26D8GF226939)
A couple of weeks ago I asked this and was told it was NOT possible. I suppose the Germans are always good for a surprise or two.

1984/85 models are all 2.2L, 4-cyl, OM601.

1986-89 models are all 2.5L, 5cyl, OM602.

There was a 2.5L Turbo model available in 1987 only (quite rare, and fast, too!)

This applies to USA models only, over in Europe they had a LOT more options...

Where did you look up your vin????

My 190 comes up as an 83 190 in certain vin tests because it was made in November of 1983 as an 84 model.

It is entirely possible that your 87 190D 2.5 Turbo was made in 1986 and thus comes up as an '86.

Mercedes cars for a given year come out the tail end of the previous year quite often.

Either way, it is a great car.

Maybe it's a Canadian car?

Have you tried to get a VMI at a MB dealer?

The 10th character of the VIN, (G) indicates that it is a 1986 model. If it was "H", it would be a 1987 model.

I looked it up on another Merz site. They showed a picture of it and it looks like it has the AMG body effects kit on it. So does mine. Lists it as an '86, though. It was made 5/86 according to the door tag. This car is pretty quick. I have to get the air working. I'd take a pic of it but pics seem to take up too much bandwidth and the site says they can't show them. Ernie

You need to save the pics smaller - reduce image size to something like 450x600, then save as JPEG with more compression to get the file size under 60KB, then they'll upload fine. Would love to see the photos...

Thanks GSXR. I'll try that in a couple of days. Ernie
