A year ago today...

...I hopped onto a National Airlines (of course, they ceased to exist about 6 months later) 757 and flew out to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where I was picked up by a board member who has since stopped posting, and laid eyes on my 300D for the first time. What ensued was described by a fellow board member as "a soap opera", and can be best described by reading this thread.

In the year that I've owned the car, I've done or replaced so far:

Kindly asked TXBill and leathermang to perform a compression test (thanks again! )
Both drive axleshafts (one of them twice)
Differential fluid twice (because of above)
One tire (someone slashed it :()
All 4 sets of brake pads
Both rear brake rotors
Replaced and repacked both sets of front wheel bearings
Both fuel filters
Air filter twice
Fuel return lines
Battery
Voltage Regulator
Vaccum hose between pump and brake booster (oops :o )
Monovalve
Air cleaner-to-valve cover hose
Cleaned out the hood drains

I still need to replace the cruise control amplifier, the engine driven fan clutch, the air cleaner mounts (want to change to a different style air cleaner), and the auxiliary fan, along with something to make the seats decent (probably a lost cause), but otherwise this has been a great car!

I've gotten an average of 25.411 miles to a gallon (max of 30.556 and a minimum of 22.456), have poured $1,119.25 into the car's fuel tank, and have put another $701.75 into maintaining the car (I expect that this number will go down; I had to do what in my eyes is a fair amount of maintenance this last year), for a total cost of $0.11 per mile over the 17,004 miles that I've driven her thus far.

Just thought I'd share :)

Well hopefully I'll see a two years ago today thread and so on and so forth too.... ;) My year will be at the end of this month where I flew to the raleigh/durham airport on a couple 747s to find my first benz, well eventually waiting for me. (they were late) :D

I think I pretty well got all of those with a little more, I already bought the seats and stuff from another forum member (omegabenz). I almost think the first thing I did working on it was to um, uh, well I was worried that plastic was going to be brittle so I figured better snap it now instead of later, yea... that is it. ;)

Oh yea and so far I've only put like 5k miles on it, with three cars and the not so vast amount of my driving they don't add up very quick.

Warden,

If you can't be any more precise than that, just don't bother posting your data.:D 25.411 mpg average is just too vague.:D

I have a log book that I've kept on my 240D that started at about 140,000 miles with every fill up and any other thing that has been done to it. I guess I need to take time to calculate the average fuel mileage, but I may not do it to three decimal places.

Good job keeping the old darlin' on the road.

Have a great day,

Larry,

That's what MS Excel's for. :) Back when I only had the van, I got bored one day and started transferring all of the fuel logs (that's a habit I got into with my old Scout) onto an Excel data sheet. I also later started putting in the maintenance items done and the price for all of that.

Then, another day, I got bored and decided to try and see how much overall I'd poured into each vehicle...and wound up with what I posted.

Yes, I have too much time on my hands! :D

Yea I used to use excel for all of that too. My Grand Prix had a great record of all of that stuff. Now that I own two of the same make cars I don't really bother to split up the orders to know what I'm spending on each. I still watch my mileage with every tank, I just never record it. I started a log for each car and have done a very shoddy job of keeping it up. Only bigger maintenance has made it with date and mileage.
