Looking at a 1981 240D to buy
 

I am looking at 240D to buy. It has 290k miles on it. It has a 4 speed stick, AC and the interior has the Mercedes Leather (Thick Vinyl) on seats

What would be a "fair offer" for this car? It runs OK, has some rust, steer stright and tight and interior not to ratty

BTW I'm new to posting here, been lurking for while and looking forward to, hopefully purchasing my first MB diesel car.

1986 Chevy Caprice w/ 5.0 L V8 4dr (Built like a tank died stripped and disposed off)
1987 Chevy Caprice W/ 5.0l V8 4dr(died of iron worm syndrome)

Welcome to the forum, if you've been lurking a while, you have already learned a lot!
I paid $1000 for my 240D 4 months agos with 239,000 miles. To get it thru MD state inspection, I had to replace rear dics, shoes, all metal brake lines and cables. It also had a very worn driver's seat and some floor rust. Neither the A/C nor the cruise control functions yet. It is a good solid driver that gets about 29mpg

I think, base on posts here and ebay and other sniffing around a 240D I think i will offer $1500 assuming the rust worm has not perferated the floor, fenders and lower quaters.. and the car is some kind of drivable shape.

I paid $1550 for my 240D with 256k miles on it. It, being an Oregon car, has no rust and is pretty straight, and the interior is pretty nice.

thanks for the feed back... the extent of the rust on my potential purchase will determine the price I might offer.

I think $1000 to ~ $1500 seems to be the working price range for this type of car.

Start at $750... you can always go up... very hard to go down...You may be the only looker at such an old slow car.... TxBill has bought many cars and driven them home offering that.

Yes, that may be a good starting point.

If the car doesn’t gives me that warm and fuzzies... I don't plan to buy or will low ball him.

I the worst, can part out car to recover costs...with the right price.
