I was thinking bad ring gear and he mentions transmission because he was told the transmission has to come out.

Might be the block Michael's looking for.

That's pretty uncommon though.. the fact that it was fine before he parked it six months ago tells me something happened from lack of use like a rusty starter.

I'd hate for someone to part out that car, its only got 145k miles!

I got an email from another forum member last night who has a block from an '86 300D. It may be just what I'm looking for.

I hate to scrap the rest of this car for a bad starter or glow plugs/relay/fuse because I want the block. (But I will envy anyone who buys this car, it is exactly what I was looking for a year ago)

Someone else on the forum on the east coast should buy this one and fix it for a hundred bucks.

Aren't there a couple of member out there looking for an SDL?

Currently I am the high bidder, but I think it will go for more than I'm willing to pay.

How could anyone tell it has a bad transmission if engine won't start?

Ditto P.E.H. Somebody's going to get very lucky when he changes air and fuel filters, then checks the tailpipe. A pull start and away you go. Perhaps to the clinker for auto theft?

I'm no longer the high bidder, but I expected that.

I e-mailed owner TUE but haven't heard anything yet (WED).

$1,624.. going for alot more than I thought. I bet it ends at $2,500.. which is way too much for a non running car.

Kind of hard to tell if it was a good deal or not, considering it did not start. At 1500.00 it would have been worth a shot.
