Got my Ac compressor out and ???
Hi folks:
Finally got the Harrison AC compressor out. It had just started becoming noisy. I did not use it as soon as I heard the noise. No lock up or anything just did nor sound good. Not a very hard job. Ramps are a must. Guess what no oil at all from the compressor.??? may be 2 ml or about 30-40 drops at the most practically dry. Thank God no metal grit etc inside, but I am flushing the system anyway. Also removed the Receiver dryer, and guess what??? Not even one drop of oil from there either. Now I am concerned. I Know 3 years back when I retrofitted the AC to R134a, I had put in full 6 oz of r134 oil along with green color dye to check the leak and no leak at all. So what happened? I decided to look at the expansion valve, and oh boy am I glad I did. There was a major failure of there on one of the fittings due to worn out o-ring. The 2 pieces of sponge arounf the E-valve were soaked in oil, I mean I could literally squeeze out 2 oz of oil. SO Now i am going to do a major major flush order a new R/D NEW AC Delco compressor and new Expansion valve. Also change all o-rings at all reachable joints. Just a post FYI. MVK

The oil is pretty well distributed througout the system. Seeing minimal amounts in r/d and compressor is somewhat normal.
That said, you are doing the right thing by flushing thoroughly and putting in correct amount of oil. This would be the ideal time to go back to R12 and mineral oil. If you replace compressor, r/d and thoroughly flush, all you have to do is put in mineral oil, evacuate and charge with R12 to get the system cooling as it should. Good luck, |
