Anyone recommend an injector shop in the San Francisco/ San Jose area?
Hello,
I want to have my injectors tested near San Francisco/ San Jose. Does anyone know of a trustworthy shop?

There's a Bosch approved shop in S. San Francisco (or there abouts) that I have heard is excellent. Someone here posted info about it once as a link to a BMW site. Sorry, don't remember the name but someone else here might.

If no one else replies, there's Coast Fuel Injection in San Jose, near where the 101 and the 880 meet. I had the injector pump timing set on my truck there, and they seem like good people to do business with if you don't do your own work. I don't know what they charge to test the injectors, though...but I've heard that if you search carefully, you can find a shop that'll do the test as a courtesy.
CFI's phone number is (408) 287-7600 Hope that helps...if you wind up using a different shop, I'd like to find out where and how much they charged you, 'cause I have 16 injectors (two sets for the truck) that I'd like to get tested...

I've never used them but had a friend with an old 2002 that used them a few years ago and was very impressed. I'd just give them a call, I'm sure they have a price table they can quote from.

Pacific Fuel Injection in SSF is highly recommended.
Gus is the man there. He checked a set I had laying around for $25 (several years ago). I had the pleaseure of watching while he did the work, its an interesting process. To clean and calibrate a set is about $30 per injector however maybe more for some types. Just checking them for spray pattern is simple and only takes a few minutes. If however you catch him busy, he will probably tell you to leave them off, that little shop get busy at times. Pacific fuel injection!
I went to Pacific Fuel Injection yesterday. Gus is awesome. He dropped what he was doing and tested my injectors immediatly. He took me in the back to check out my injectors. Real neat to see the simple process. 5 bucks per injector to check pattern and opening pressure. 55 per rebuild. Really, really helpful!
Pacific Fuel Injection Service 153 Utah Avenue South San Francisco, CA 94080 650-588-8880 They are right off of South Airport Blvd. If you are on 101 N. take S. Airport exit and stay right. Go south on S. Airport and then next left on Utah. They are the last left hand driveway before a small bridge.

Hello,
Mordecai, I see your point about the slightly higher cost of the injectors from Pacific but: 1) I am pretty confidant that the injectors which you are seeing advertised are Bosch rebuilds. Everybody I talked to about Bosch injectors was selling rebuilds. They are boxed and look new but are rebuilds. There are some interesting posts on this site about the hit or miss quality of these injectors rebuilt BY Bosch. People have reported having Bosch rebuilds checked and having them be out of spec right out of the box. Pacific is a Bosch rebuilder, on-site, and you have a name, face and location to deal with if you have a problem. 2) Time is money, and so is shipping! If I can go to a well run shop like this and get what I need on the same day, I'm happy. 3) It is awesome to see local shops which can meet my needs. I am perfectly happy to pay a bit more to have the face-to-face owner operator on my side. Home Depot is a perfect example: zero customer service to the point of !ROBOCASHIERS! (i'm scared). I would rather go down the street to my local hardware store (possibly the last on the planet?) and not feel so, so... un-loved. 4) Pacific will reduce the testing cost from the cost of one of their injectors. So they are fifty each if you paid Gus five dollars to prove that your old one was indeed faulty. If your old one was fine, you save fifty bucks!

Calling anyone in the BayArea!
Hello,
I recently bought a compression tester which stopped working on the fourth of my five cylinders. My car is all apart and I would like to re-test all five cylinders. I would return the gauge to my friendly neighboorhood shop but I was a cheapskate and bought it on Ebay!!!! The return will take over a week. Practice what you preach huh! Well, I need to get my paws on a diesel compression tester. A drip tube to do the IP timing would be awesome as well. I have access to a full size lift and well equiped shop any night of the week. The shop is in San Jose. I would love to trade a favor for a favor. Something like you lend me the tools, with a cash deposit, and I'll help you do a job with my lift. We would just have to be cleaned up by morning. Lemme know.

Matt, my friend (also lives in SM) has a home made drip tube. No help on the compression tester - you're better off with a new one on that item I suppose Ebay for many things is hit or miss.
Let me know if you want to contact the man for the drip timing tube by PM. I don't envision any midnight auto work, I did that in my youth like changing a clutch in a driveway using cinder blocks for jackstands and a 30 degree North wind to keep cool! Dieseldiehard |

Hi, dieseldiehard, I would like to get in touch with your friend if possible. I am going to buy some junk lines tommorow to build my own, but would love to get my engine buttoned up soon.
The midnight mechanic routine isn't too bad with heat, stereo, airtools and a lift. I'm sooo against laying under cars since I got the keys to this shop. It is really a treat to stand up under your car. Thanks.
