New Ester Oil dripped out when installing new compressor

Hi Folks:
Installed a NEW compressor today. PUt in 6 oz of ester oil in compressor( Does it matter which port to put it in) I put it in the large port( is it suction port?) Any way then put the plug back on and manually rotated the compressor about 10-20 times. Felt very hard. Then while the plugs were still on, installed the compressor so oil wont fall out during compressor installation, then removed the plug so I can put the seal rings and attach the hose manifold. As soon as I removed the plugs, all the oil I put in came out. I mean everything. Anyway I cleaned the seal rings and then cleaned the ports on compressor by wiping it dry and installed the rings followed by manifold. Tightened all nuts bolts etc etc. The installation is complete. I still have to install the Exp valve and R/D tomorrow.

Now my QUESTION is, how do i put back the 6 oz of oil in the system( The remaining 2 will go in R/D). Can I just use the Aerosol can of ester oil ? and if I do will it reach compressor?
What other precautions should I take??

Worst AC system I have ever seen. They should have fired the MB Guys who designed this AC system.

Any other tips welcomed.

MVK

How much was in the compressor when you got it? They are usually shipped filled, I think, but not always?

It should have stayed in, but you can always add it in the cans with R134a in them, just blow it in with the compressor off. Probably put it in the "wrong" side and the compressed air under it. If you'd not turned the compressor until you had the hoses on, it may have stayed put. The MB manual simply says pour the oil in and cap. Nothing about it coming back out!

I usually add the oil directly to the low side with the compressor off, then add one can as liquid (invert the can) in the HIGH side with full vac on the system. Takes less time than getting vapor in from three cans instead of two.

If adding the oil to the low side makes you nervous, add it to the high side after you evacuate the system, then the can of liquid to the high side, compressor OFF. This will get it where it needs to go without slugging liquid into the compressor.

Worst AC system you've ever seen? Try a CCOT with a stuck orifice tube some time!

Thanks Peter:
The New R4 came empty and had a Notice pasted on it that it was empty and must put oil.
How hard is to rotate the compressor by hand on bench when its new. I really had to try hard with both hands before it rotated. and was pretty hard there after. Tried for about 10 turns.

I gesuu pressure can of ester oil is next choice. Will do that only after the system is closed and engine is off. Also will vac the system.
Thanks for the help.
Peter can you please tell me about these new sealing rings that are metal with rubber center on them. My new R4 was with stepped port.Yellow ring fitted to large orifice(suction I guess) then there were 2 small ones A thinner red and A slightly thicker green. Looked like Green would give a better fit so installed that. I hope I did it right.

Take the compressor off, fill it with the required amount of oil, hold it up with your left hand while you install the hose manifold, and THEN bolt it to the bracket. There is enough flex in the rubber hoses to install the manifold with the compressor tipped up in your hand (or resting on your chest), but not tipped upright so much that the oil spills out. That's how I did the job.

Thanks Greg. I will try that Anyway the suction manifold seal at compressor is leaking big time . Just did a dry pressure test. So I will have to detach the manifold and try to reattach. Man what a mess. Why such a poorly designed manifold from Benz?? My new compressor is with stepped ports.
