Sunroof adj. on 300CD

Has anyone done this??

I followed the CD ROM and the front rails have a screw with a washer attached to it and I can't adjust it any lower than it is. The front still sits about 2-3mm high.

Also it hits the passenger side first so I have to push the drivers side to get it to close all the way.

What to do?

Craig

Make sure you are turning the screw the correct way -- I'm not sure how it threads in. Don't forget that you have to loosen all the phillips screws before you can move the rail up or down!

If you really are maxed out on downward adjustment, then you have worn slider pads. They are some sort of slick plastic and cost the earth, but hey, whatever it takes, right?

The slides in question are the two at the front, on the two small metal bits that screw on at the front edge.

I don't remember if you can remove them with the top panel in place or not. If not, you will have to remove it after taking the headliner on the sunroof off.

Instructions if you need them.

I took all the philips screws out and removed the chrome part, cleaned all around, then tried to screw the rail down lower.

From what I could see, the adjustment screw is screwed into metal and all the way down. I had the sunroof headliner off when I did this.

When it's closed and a bit high, I can push on the front of the sunroof from above and it's spongy. That makes me think that there's something going on with the tracks that the sunroof slides in.

Does yours lift as well as slide back and forth?

If so, you may have bad lift angles, but I'd suspect the slides on the front first. They go both over and under the rail, so it's possible that the little felts are missing, or the plastic slider is broken off, allowing the panel to sit too high even though the rails are correct.

It may also be possible to put the metal bits on upsidedown -- I had to replace mine (they had been removed before I got the car, and the sunroof glued closed), and I'm not sure they are in right. I have to remove it again to fix some rust (nice project for next week).

If they are upside down, the plastic slides will be on the wrong side, I think, and allow the roof to be too high.
