Hubcaps

When I bought my 300 DT several years ago, the owner threw in an extra set of rims and hubcaps---same color as car. I have always had the alloy rims on the car. Anyway, I was looking at the extra wheels and hubcaps yesterday and couldn't figure how to attach them. They came with a dozen clips or so, but no instructions. I've searched the site already and couldn't find anything. Anybody run across this that could offer me a clue?

Jim A.,

I think you mean "wheel covers" and not really hub caps. I recently made a similar mistake and was quickly put on the correct path.

The wheel covers go with the steel wheels. The clips fit on the wheel covers, I cannot recall exactly how at the moment, but there are some features on the unpainted side of the wheel covers that the ends of the clips fit into. Installed, the clips are basically a spring loaded finger sticking out, away from the wheel cover. The feature the clips fit into is not specific to any angular position, so you take 4 of the clips and locate them essentially evenly around the circumference, then fit the valve stem on the wheel through one of the vent holes (which may be the feature come to think of it that captures the end of the clip). Fit the fingers into the wheel on either side, and then pop the other side of the wheel cover down and in, toward the wheel. It will compress the fingers enough to let the other two fingers get captured, and then the wheel cover is on.

Hope this helps, and good luck, Jim
