New member with questions
Wow what a great forum. I own an 87 300D which I bought used five years ago. I like to do my own repairs and maintenence and have an extensive tool collection and almost 30 years of backyard mechanic experience.
One thing I'd like to know is where to get some really good manuals. I have a set of Mercedes factory service manuals but they are very vague to say the least. The Chilton and Haynes manuals are not the greatest and the Popualr Mechanics CD is practically worthless. I am also replacing my cruise control amplifier since a diagnostic check pinpointed this as the faulty part in the system. I went to GDL's site and performed the test on the actuator that they recommend and found the actuator motor to be drawing between 180 and 215 mA, which is just over their recommended tolerance of 120 to 180 mA. I am wondering if I should replace the actuator also or if it will perform ok with a new amp. Anyone out there have experience on that? Sorry for the novel, I'll save the other questions for the next edition. Thanks, Brian

The hard print manuals from MB are the best. They do show up on ebay on occasion but are quite pricy.
I usually just pull the actuator and amplifier and send them to Peter at GDL and let him go through them. Welcome aboard.

Manuals:
I have not found "great manuals" out there. I have the CD manuals as well as the Mercedes printed manuals.
My solution is to use this board and the Archives and I print out articles I need. This has given me six 3" notebooks full of information. I then 3 hole punch it and put it in catagories. Hope this helps. Charlie |
