Driver's side window died, switch?

On my 83 300SD, my driver's side window died yesterday. It went down fine, now it won't go up. (Of course, it poured down rain last night here in Southern California. Cardboard worked marvelously.) There's no noise from the motor, nothing from the window.

Should I be looking at switch? If so, how do I pull the center console. I think I can do the door panel removal.

Try cleaning out the contacts on the switch before you think about buying a new one.

Yes, the switches can be carefully pried out and pried apart. They come apart and go back together rather easily. Due to location they collect crumbs, dust, etc. and need a little help every once in awhile.

Good luck,

In an emergency you can swap the switches from the passenger & driver to get the window up. I just had to do this on my '83 300SD.

Great success doing this on my 1991 350 SDL ... driver side had gotten sticky (likely coffee from prior owner) ... after good cleaning, I swapped it to a back seat window switch position figuring it would get far less use there ... and, the rear window switch had probably had far less use than the passenger window.

All are still 4.0 after three years.

Be careful as you prise is apart, as there are a couple of tiny springs and various other small components ... do it in well lighted area over a clean surface - so you can find stuff if it "escapes."
