My new (to me) '97 E300D

First of all, I had to re-register on the forum because I forgot to update my e-mail address, so this isn't really my first post. Anyhow, I just picked up a new diesel. I got a '97 E300D. It appears to be in excellent condition. Everything works fine on the car and it drives beautifully. I was driving an '85 before this one and it is a completely different car. The car had 230,000 miles on it when I bought it. I was nervous about it at first but after seeing the car, it appeared it was very well taken care of. Hopefully I made the right call and I will still get many enjoyable miles out of the car. Also, I paid $9,800 for the car. It seemed to be a very good price but it did have high miles so I don't know if that was a good price or not. Only time will tell.

Scott

If this is the car that was on ebay and in the carolina's you got a great car.

I was looking at this car to add to my others. It appeared to be well taken care of and just a high mileage commuter.

Good luck!!!!!!!

This was the car on E-bay. Someone else posted a link to it. I drove down from Richmond to Raleigh to buy it the same night I first saw the post on here. It was completely a spur of the moment thing. I wasn't even in the market for another diesel. I just thought it was a good deal and took a chance. My other diesel had many little things wrong with it and I don't have the time anymore to fix all of them or even a place to work on it. I hate to get rid of the other one though ('85). I really like it and vowed I would drive it until it blew up.

Ahh another high mileage W210 diesel. Mine has 280K on it at this time and I love it. I wish I had gotten the price you did though. Any way enjoy.

Shoe,

Boy is it encouraging to see those kind of miles on these cars!!

I am wondering what repairs you have encountered thus far. Last weekend I did my tensioner and serp belt. This weekend I am planing on doing the front lower ball joints. I regularly put between 800 and 1000 miles a week on my baby. So, I will be up there with you soon!!!

Is there anything I should keep an eye on?

What symptoms led you to believe that you needed to replace your lower balljoints? Just curious as if I should look into that myself.....

michakaveli,

My car wanders on uneven sufaces. The stearing wheel is straight, yet the front wheels will go left and right following the contours of the road. This is very evident when I am driving on highway with ruts in it caused by big trucks.

Slowmoe,

I have not done any thing major, I had the fuel shut off valve replaced when I first bought the car. In case you have not been to the tech area I am having a nightmare with the CE light concerning the glow plugs. As far as the front end the car seems tight no wandering at all. We do not put the miles that you are talking about so you should pass me up quickly. In spite of the small problems I think this is the best car I have owned so far. I plan to find a 98 or 99 turbo soon. The truck has to go

I have a w124 that after 200K miles started to handle like you were standing up in a canoe at 70 mph -- tracking rain grooves and other irregular surfaces.

I tried replacing the shocks and linkages, but it was only after swapping out the subframe and differential mounts that I eventually cured the problem.
