what are you asking for it???

turbodiesel 08-06-2003 08:42 PM

Wow.. really rare to find leather in this car.

slowmoe 08-06-2003 09:24 PM

Jobah,

I am pretty undecided on the asking price. I just bought a w210. This one is just sitting in the garage waiting fot the right person to come along.

I am thinking somewhere in the 8's.

Well, let me give you the low down:

It has leather, rear sunshade, ASD and the optional metalic paint. I have all records since new, including the origional window sticker.

Since I have owned it I have done:

Four tires, brakes, rotors
Front end
Bilstein HD's on four corners
Radiator, hoses and t-stat
shut-off valve
Vacuum pump for door locks
Front bearings
and more that I am probably forgetting

Trans, rear diff, fuel filters etc... done every 30K. Trans and rear diff with Mobil1. Oil and filter done every 5K with Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic.

Everything works including the sunroof, A/C, all vents, and power windows.

Reason for sale: a "new to me E300"

I don't want to ask too much...but at the same time, I don't want to sell it for less than it is worth.

I went to Edmunds.com and pulled this appraisal based on your pictures and list of equipment, and location. Unfortunately $8k will be way too high for your car, as even a dealer will not be asking that for one on a used lot. I would be looking at asking around $5500 in your case, and would still be open to some negotiations.

slowmoe 08-07-2003 12:23 PM

Thanks Diesel Power for the input.

I just have never found any of those guides to be an accurate indicator of a car's true market value... unless it is on an auction block.

I am sure you know that when you buy any car from any dealer, more often than not you are buying an unknown product. Personally, I would never buy a used car from a dealer with 200K on it. I do not think that many would.

A car with full documentaion that has been well loved by the enthusiast from whom you are purchasing it is another story. I am willing to pay more for a car like this. More value is brought to the table. The question is how much more.

For example, if I were looking for a 300SDL right now, I would without hesitation purchase Turodiesel's. I know he has taken wonderful car of that car!! You bet I would pay more for that than I would any old 300SDL with 300K sitting on a dealer lot.

Diesel Power 08-07-2003 12:35 PM

The guides are not meant to be dead on. They are a benchmark. Like you, I would likely pay more for a forum members car vs. one off of a lot or ad. Even then, I would have to have the car undergo a very thorough inspection prior to purchase for any hidden problems that they may not have been aware of. If you do put an ad in the paper, that estimate will be what you will be having to compare to on any perspective buyer that will be researching their purchase.

Even in your case, $8,000 is still over $3000 higher than private party value. The drivers side seat looks worn, and that prevents giving the car the "outstanding" mark on the appraisal, as it counts towards reconditioning, same as the worn cloth in my Euro.

I'm not knocking your car as it looks beautiful. Silver is my favourite color, and the rest of the car looks nearly perfect. If I were in the market for a W124, I would be seriously considering your car. You just may want to reconsider the $8k asking price.

slowmoe 08-07-2003 09:08 PM

Thanks again, Diesel Power. I am sure this car will make the right person a very happy new owner.

By the way, the driver's seat is in near perfect condition. What you see is the flash from the camera and pixilation from having to reduce the quality of the image to be accepted for the post.

Happy dieseling!!!

According to NADA, your 300D 2.5 is worth, on the lot, between $8650 and $11,550.

Two books I don't like for old diesels are KBB and Edmunds. They tell you that the value is ZILCH for your car, when it's not.
The newer model Benz's are much better valued in those books than the older ones.

What these books don't tell you is how RARE the diesel is. Diesels were out of favor since after 1985. So all newer diesels were built in limited production.

Use NADA. I find it's the closest think to the real TMV for older cars.

Just looked up an '87 SDL in the BEST CONDITION POSSIBLE with 97K miles. I'm supposed to surrender the car to someone else for a MAXIMUM OF $5,050! The price is $5089 for Edmunds in OUTSTANDING CONDITION (dark blue)! (choke)

Slowmoe,

How much are you selling the pictures for? Well, that's what you said in your heading. LOL

Better heading would be: Some pictures of the car I'm selling.

This car is VERY RARE to find, may be the only one in US with these options, and with such records, two (minor) options missing: the passenger air bag and light wibers...Also, I am not sure in 1992 model the windows can go up and down with the key as in my 1993 car!!!

IMO, this car should be sold for No less than $8500 - regardless what other books say!!!
I have a 1993 300D and I like it very much, but it does not have leather seats only tex!!!Those leather seats worth MUCH
:(

slowmoe 08-08-2003 09:15 PM

P.E.,

I would be happy to sell you these pictures $8,500!!

michakaveli 08-09-2003 01:48 AM

Any details or pix of the w210 you have acquired? Is she another diesel:eek:

slowmoe 08-09-2003 12:44 PM

michakaveli,

I do not have digital images of the 210 yet.

It is a diesel 606 with:

- metalic champaign paint
- oyster leather
- rear sunshade
- heated seats
- headlight washers
- side impact airbags
- 6 disc CD.

It is in almost perfect condition!!

I am the second owner. It now has 70K and runs great. There are definitely pros and cons between the 210 and the 124. I would imagine that they have already been discussed - I should do a search.

I love the new body style, saftey, comfort and convenieces. I am not wild about the ride, rigidity and overall quality of materials used. I think the 124 2.5 with Bilstein HD's is the best complete package out there...

240Demon 08-09-2003 08:10 PM

I wish I had $8000 laying around...I wish I could have such a cool car...However...if it was only stickshift....

slowmoe 08-10-2003 07:15 PM

Thanks for all the thoughts guys.

The car sold today for $8000 to another enthusiast. I hope this thread helps others with pricing questions.
