I believe this is the car. It's the only one I can recall with 131k miles on it. This sure is one beautiful car.

Yes. Daimler300CD is correct. That is the one. I have my fingers crossed and my wallet squeezed that is will be a memorable start to a long and happy MB relationship. Just under 700 mile trip this coming Tuesday to bring it to its new home. Since my wife will be flying out and riding back with me, I am certainly crossing my fingers. She doesn't share my love for vintage and antique. New for her. What doesn't she understand? (Kidding)

I'll keep you posted with first impressions. Steve

Looks like a great car! I bought my W124 on Ebay and drove it 600 miles home in one day. When I first saw it I was a bit scared that I had made a mistake but by the time I got home I was in love with it. I still am, 18 months later.

Am I the only one who thought,"Given that fact, I'd be leaving the wife at home. No need to sour her further on vintage cars given the fact that there are a lot of uncertainties in the situation?"

It looks as if you may have hit a home run. Here's wishing you a good and safe trip home (hopefully the ball won't sail outside of the foul pole with your wife riding shotgun while she has highway headache - fanny fatigue - road funk that makes her homesick for her bath... naaahh... lol...).

Good luck. I'm jealous.

87 tdt

I saw that car and was very tempted, I was a little concerned with the statement that several panels had been repainted and that the car seemed to have a trailer hitch installed, other than that looked like a descent car, good luck and enjoy.

Talking

Made it back with my first MB. Trip from Philly to Charlestown, NH was pleasurable. The girl performed w/o giving me any trouble. I was glad to drive through some rain since I had no idea how the single wiper system would do. Wish all of my vehicles worked as good!

I know there was some concern over what appeared to be a trailer hitch. My fears were put to rest before I even flew to Philly.

The postings and threads of this forum helped greatly. Before I bid I had read hundreds of them. After I won the bid I read nearly an additional 100. Armed with more information than I otherwise would have had, I went over the car with the seller and learned details he would not have thought to address. I asked him about the sunroof drains. He went on to tell me that yes he did have a problem with them and explained how he addressed them. I mentioned that the water probably accumulated in front of the rear seat and he was surprised I would know that (thanks forum).

Too long a post yet as you can tell I am quite excited with my newest addition. Thinking it is almost time to start looking for another one. Steve

I just picked up an 87 and in spite of an unforseen transmission leak the car is very impressive. I might even say a fast diesel. This car would be insulted if you called it peppy. She is fast when she gets rolling. It takes some time to learn how to work her but she does work. Alot of turbo lag I have noticed but the good news is that it does arrive. I love the sound that it makes. I think that this car has alot going for it as far as a spirited turbo with a chassis who really wants to get rolling. I can easliy see my self getting some tickets in this car. Now granted we are still not going to beat many cars in a race But who races diesels. I have not spent alot of time with her on the highway. I look foward to spreading her wings.

good luck with yours,

bob c

The Bob:

Didn't you mention that the car still had the trap oxidizer? Take it to your local Mercedes dealer, and they'll give you a new pipe to replace it. Maybe even a new turbo, if you're lucky!

The pictures show that the trap has been replaced. Very nice car BTW, mine is white and it definetly hauls for a diesel.
