1983 300SD Ride Height

I am suspect that the springs in my car were replaced with some that are stronger. While the front and the rear are level, it look to tall and feels oversprung when going over bumps.

Would someone please post the measurement (In inches) of the ground to the wheel opening.

Thank you,

Don

Question rear springs

Don,

If the rear height of the SD sits level and or a little taller than the front of the vehicle, then your springs are probably good. These cars typically wear the springs down in the rear after a couple of hundred thousand miles.

Most likely, the difference in the RIDE QUALITY between the front and the rear of your ride will be the result of a change of the rear (and even the front) shock absorbers from the STOCK BILSTEINS.

To save MONEY, many previous owners change to a lesser quality shock. This is especially prevalent when the car is to be sold.............ie; to someone like you. The aftermarket shocks DO NOT have the level of quality of ride one will expect from a MERCEDES BENZ. The Bilsteins are the ONLY way to go!

You mey even already have replacement shocks on the front, however, a mismatched set between the front and the rear sounds likely.

Best wishes always and keep it under 100!
Spo out.

But I would still like to get someone to provide the proper height. Mine looks like a 4x4 with the wheel clearance.

From the ground my front is 28 1/2" to the center of the wheel well opening. The back is 26 1/2"

1983 300SD Ride Height

I just measured my 83 300SD

Front 28"

Rear 26.5"

My tire/wheel combo is 225/60R15, my tires are new, less than 500 miles. The rear tires fill the wheel wells nicely, the front would look better .5/1.0" lower. The car rides and drives great so I will leave it alone.
