cruise control amp repair video

Anyone buy this CD to help repair the CC amplifier? I just purchased a 82 300D that has a bad one and this video is just 13 bucks compared to $200 for a used one. Thanks..

Yep, I've heard cc amplifier repair is actually less than $20 in parts and knowing what needs soldering.

How technical is the video? Does it tell you exactly how to do this simple repair, also listing electronic parts needed to avoid the sucker-market of buying rebuilt $200 cc amplifier?

I don't know how specific it is, I was just doing a search on e-bay and came up with this video. States he goes step by step on finding out what's wrong.

Does the CD say which component to replace, or does it simply say to resolder everything. My guess is some of the little amplifier components (LM2902N) probably need to be popped out and replaced.

Somewhere there is a list of all the components to shotgun replace in aging cruise controls. Included is a list of new part numbers from electronic parts vendors as certain parts are now obsolite. Condensors were a poor original design as well as poor transistors. I believe the parts were quoted as less than twenty dollars to round up. . Once this is done I understand they are quite reliable.

yeah..problem if I remember correctly though is finding the LM2902N chips. searched in google about a year back in most sites are in chinese and the rest if they're there at all require purchasing in lots of 1000.

if there's a new chip number out there I'm listening...i've got a fried one too.

Thumbs up Here's the part

Hey guys, I have not done the repair but Im in the electronics industry and have sources...

Here's the part:

http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?Ref=248133&Row=117560&Site=US

This is the Texas Instruments version. Other companies will also make equivalents.

If someone takes a picture of the part inside the amp I can verify that it is the right package type. It looks like this is the only package it comes in so you should be okay.

Digikey is a pleasure to deal with and dont have a min order, order some extras...

EDIT: You MAY find these at an extemely enlightened radio shack or electronics store. Thats a bread and butter part...

I will go looking it's been awhile. The gentleman specified the parts replacements with easily available substitutes. I believe he quoted the condensors were a particularly poor type originally. The transistors were also under rated or of poor quality.
I also suspect that the ones that come back to life after resolderinmg may have dropped out of service while fairly new. I was never sure it was bad solder joints or the heat was travelling up a components leg and reactivating it.
Although if these units were manufactured by the phillips electronic industry in europe. They never could seem to production solder reliably when others had it down pat. It got to the point I refused to work on their stuff.
Track back to this thread in a few days to see if I have found the information. I too have a few I should do.
