Wow, that is pretty wierd. Probably not a bad car, but a parts supply nightmare for sure.

I don't understand a " minor" fender bender giving it a " salvage" title....
Does this have the aluminum head ?

Looks like a pretty unique car. Notice the hydraulic pump on the front of the head. I'm assuming it has the self leveling rear suspension.

Did you notice the w123 steering wheel! Very strange. Paint looks trashed, and the engine is filthy, so I doubt it was well cared for.

The same engine as the 86-87 SDL; 6cyl. 3.0 litre. Great engine. Is there a turbo in there? I would love that engine and tranny in an early 80's G-Wagen.

VERY interesting car. If it has a turbo with the manual tranny it could be a real sweetheart.

BUT! salvage title screws the pooch. Repaint and salvage title followed by this type of sale (probably traded-in to this used car dealer who can claim ignorance as to condition) means that something serious probably happened to the car (bent frame?). Combine that scenario with new tranny and this deal starts smelling pretty bad.

There is always the chance that a good deal can be had here - but with all those factors lining up it does not look good.

That IS an interesting car, the model/engine/tranny.
If it were closer to check over and test drive...

I like the diesels we have/had and like'm mated to
a stick. If a Euro 6cyl 5-speed in good condition was
conveniently offered for sale I'd be sorely tempted.

It looks like manual heater control like the plain janes
in the driveway here. Crank windows, manual sunroofs,
no cruise or air (cool Oregon coast). Any MBZ powered
options I've had went broke ;-)
