Thumbs up congratulations!!!!!

Hi Larry,

Basically just want to wish you all the best in the future.
I have always enjoyed your posts and anecdotes. However, I did NOT enjoy the situation regarding the 300d of your daughter and the FLOORED IP

Anyway, I have learned much and appreciate all of your (and everyone else's posts.
Good luck and ENJOY the security of the new job! I do know that we certaintly have not heard the last from LARRY BIBLE!
Wait..........................what is that I hear???..............perhaps...........yes, I do believe.....an excellent 300d engine in your neighborhood, just waiting for a transplant
...............Besides, a slow modem WILL work just fine!
How about the stick shift euro 123? What's up with that one?

Best wishes always, and keep those diesels humming!!!
Spo out.

Larry,

Great to hear things are looking up for you. I know you will figure out how to stay in touch though as the technology exists and the problem can be readily overcome. Besides, dial up for a bulletin board type website is fine.

I use a two way satelite system from skycasters.net, and it supports a VPN hook up very nicely on the download. The uploads are about twice the speed of the dial-up connection. It is expensive, and my company paid for mine. I now can get cable access though and my satelite may become obsolete (in a few months). The only real drawback of the satelite system is the cost, which is about $120 or so per month. It is quite adequate on speed though, not what you get with DSL, T-1, or cable, but about 8 to 10 times what we get on a phone line here.

Let me know if you want my satelite stuff if I switch to a cable internet connection. I have a buddy who might be interested who lives out in the Atlantic Ocean (Turks and Caicos) if he can figure out how to set the stuff up so it may not be available if he learns how to aim these things soon enough. And don't even think about not checking in here and helping out. I only got my faster satelite connection in February this year.

Good luck, and don't avoid us! Jim

Good news for Larry, bad news for me. How am I going to keep this stable running? About 3000 of your posts were ones that helped me either directly or indirectly. My favorite posts are ones about leaks and the unlikely culprits. Took you forever to find them and your wisdom took me about 2 minutes to read.

Thanks for all

Don

As a newbie (sort of) it was interesting to read the threads above this one. Doing so, it became obvious that you must be very steadfast. Parroting some of the others . . . you were one of the first to respond to my inquiries when first testing the waters of MB ownership. Having read so many of your postings and replies to other folks postings, I knew you were someone that I could trust with both direct and indirect guidance. If not for that fact, I would not now be a proud MB owner. Though as the expected repairs/maintenance issues I may occasionally wonder why I let myself get into this situation, I am certain I will have more moments of pride than despair. It is now clear to me that you are one of the elite leaders of a special group of automotive enthusiasts. Best of luck in all you do and I will continue to look forward to your posts.

Spo123,

The picture in the original post of this thread is my Euro 123. It's an '84 240D, 4 speed with manual everything. It is like a member of the family although it is currently in Cryogenic mode.

I hope to now have the money to rebuild the original engine and put it back in to get the car on the road. I have had a different engine in the car for about the last 20,000 miles or so before it lost so much compression that it wouldn't start.

I'm not so driven to put my daughters old 300D back on the road since I'm just not taken with automatics and five cylinders, but Ol' Silver will definitely live again at some point in the future.

Everyone,

I am flattered by all the posts and good wishes. I won't be disappearing, it's just that my logon time will be limited.

Have a great day,

He likes a slow diesel MB but not a slow internet? Hm...

I've learned to avoid the posts with the paperclip unless they look interesting (my rural internet has a top speed of 26K, average 21-24K, and I give up when it occasionally hits 16K). Without the paperclip it's the same speed as work DSL. Perhaps a LarryBible rant about pics in the signature section is in order.

Good luck on the new start, and keep posting. Those you irritate simply haven't broken and fixed enough yet. Experience matters. And so does sharing your wisdom.

Congrats on the new opportunity, I wish you the best of luck with it.

I travel a bit myself and am addicted the Diesel Discussion forum. I use a nationwide ISP that has access numbers everywhere I go, so logging on with my notebook is not a problem. I actually enjoy being able to scan the days posts in my hotel at night while enjoying a brew and burger. A nice way to end a day on the road.

Thanks for your wisdom and knowledge, Larry. By the way, I've lived with a 26K dialup here in the sticks for years and Mercedesshop is definitely one of the fastest sites to load. I don't think it should cramp your style too much.

Good luck with your new job.

Larry, Direcway has a two way satellite system that my neighbour and I share at home. This sytem works great. The only time it needs a dialup modem was for initial setup. With the home office, the system should be a tax deduction, and you'll get your two way broadband system. Since it's a buisness thing, I would still keep the dialup as a backup system for storms as satellite broadband is susceptible to the same rain fade as the TV is.
