Murphy at work; Things happen only when far Far from home…
I am hearing just a split-seconds worth of nailing ONLY when just coming off idle with a very light application of the accelerator. As the engine accelerates through 700-800 RPMs coming away from a stop, I hear some nailing which then immediately goes away. If I put the car in neutral and hold the RPMs at that level, the nailing noise persists until I either go to higher RPMs or let it fall back to idle.
I just did a kamikaze run for about 300 miles, with about 40% of it at 80-90+ MPH. I would think that type of driving would definitely qualify as an “Italian tune-up”, especially with some Redline DFC in the fuel. I checked the boost pressure before leaving, (.9 bar) and the temperature gauge never even got to 90C - even on full throttle & heavy load at high speed going uphill in the heat with AC on - so I know that I didn’t do a “3-mile island” on the engine.
I don’t know if it could be some poor quality fuel that I may have inadvertently purchased or what… I’m just a little concerned about making it home in one piece… Any suggestions? Should I douse the fuel with some cetane boosting additives? Perhaps waive a dead chicken over the car? Purchase a sacrificial Chevy & push it off a cliff?
