removal of vcm pump&M/C question
Hi Folks, I have a 84 300D and have a weak vacum pump. Can I rebuild the pump in the car and if not any suggestion are more than welcome on getting the pump off of the engine. I did this job on my 300sd and it was a bear geting the pump off of the engine. I looks to be that there are screws on a cover plate and do I do the rebuild from that side of the pump. As you can guess I am working with out a manual. Thanks in advance
I do have one more question and that concerns the master cylinder,. What are the two round buttons for on the top of the brake fluid resivour for? They seem to have a pump action to them. Thanks again. John |

I would suggest just replacing the vacuum pump if it is worn out. Are you sure it is the vacuum pump?
The two round buttons are test buttons. Mash one and see if the brake lite comes on on the dash. It is indicating low brake fluid. welcome aboard

Thanks for yoiur reply Jim,
I think it is the Vacum pump necause I can put my finger over the outlet for the pump and get very little vacum. I knoe you could never build a bridge uding this method. The vecum is such that I can hold my finger over the outlet and not get any real vacum for about a full min. I do know that I have vacum leaks in the system which I will work on after I get the pump replaced. I need the vacum to the booster. Any feedback on geting the socket heads out that hold the pump on the block. The last time I did this job I stripped out one head and all were tight. Thanks in advance. JOhn |
