Rebuilt Calipers--how do I get brake fluid into them-(feeling dumb )(85 300D)
I just rebuilt my Front brake calipers on my 85 300D.
How do I get Brake Fluid into them? I have tried pumping them, opening different connections, vacuum and a pressure bleeder and they are still dry as a Bone at the Bleed valves. I don't feel too smart. I got at least a working grasp of Fluid Mechanics and engineering, but I cant get the brake fluid to dribble. Last two times I did this, I remember it was a piece of cake. What am I doing wrong? Rebuilt Calipers--how do I get brake fluid into them-(feeling dumb )(85 300D) |
Make sure you have enough fluid in the master cylinder and that it has been bled enough to draw it in -- if you have only air in it, you can go back and forth forever.
You should be able to just open the bleeders with the master cylinder reservior full and apply a bit of vaccum -- this will pull the fluid down nicely. That's what I did on the 280 SE. Open only one side at a time to avoid pulling air across the brake lines though. Failing that, a traditional bleed with two people will work the best, as any air forced out of the calipers will then cause fluid to be drawn in at the master cylinder. Peter |
I installed new callipers, hoses, and pads on the rear of my "79" 240d a couple of weeks ago. I screwed up bad as I installed them upside down (bleed fitting must be on TOP) and couldn't get them to work, however fluid came out when I bled them with the speedy bleeder but the pedal would not firm up. Someone suggested I check the orientation of the bleed fitting. thanks again:D
