Euro Spec. '75 200D (w114) found

Well, i'm still looking for an alternative to my "69 280S, since it's a gas gussler, man I miss my old diesel days.

Today I saw and test drove a '75 200D. The car was totally euro spec.; euro lights, no AC, a Manuel. The car is in great conditon. No rust anywhere. Intrior has almost no sign of wear. It runs good, everything works, no odd sounds. Seals seem good.

Obviously, its not a fast car, but I think I can manage since its a stick. My question is.. is this a rare car (I'm assuming a euro spec. would be)? And what are the pros/cons of the W114 model.

And If I was to buy it, what possible diesel engine swaps can I do with it, down the line?

It's very rare in the US, not so rare in the rest of the world except that most have been retired. Consider that the 200 and 200D were probably the most common model produced and sold outside the US throught he 70s. Check recent photos of Iraq and you'll see a few. And it's a W115.

The only cons, shared between the W114 and seemingly identical W115, are rust potential and an impossible-to-replace heater blower motor. Everything else is from the good old days as MBs go.

Why do you say its a W115? The vin clearly started with 114.

Really? Come to think of it maybe Gilly has told me that towards the end of the 114/115 life they were all 114s. The literature says that 114s were all 6cyl gas and the 115s were 4cyl gas and Diesels. But I won't aruge with a build tag.

So you're saying that the chassis number is something like 114120.10.xxxxxx?
