Unhappy engine strut 300td

Gentlemen,

I need some help I am replaceing an engine strut off a1984 5cyl diesel 300td. I coud find no part # on it and keep getting preplexed looks when I ask parts stores about getting one including, Phillip at this site. He refered me to trisar and they sent me an engine shock after I explained what I needed. Which was not an engine shock. Can anyone get me a part #or direct me to a place that may know.By the way were the old one went , well my wife picked up my garage a little and threw it out so idont even have it for a reference now.

Thank you Paty

Not quite sure what an engine strut is. Is there any way you can post a pic of where it is supposed to be installed?

Are you talking about a steering shock, which is mounted horizontally under the engine. Other than that, there is the engine shocks and the engine mounts.

Well we have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is-- Your wife actually helps clean up your garage??

The bad news is--Your wife actually helps you clean up your garage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding

My wife will not clean up my garage, no one has that much energy, Right now with the 300TD AC work and the wood shop. She will barely go into it.

Go here and see if you see what your talking about then click the number. These are internal engine parts.

http://www.************************/BitMapPage.aspx?bitmapid=139&bitmapname=300%20Diesel%20%20Internal%20Engine

Go here for the external engine parts. Again click on the number to find the part listed below

http://www.************************/BitMapPage.aspx?bitmapid=140&bitmapname=300+Diesel+External+Engine

Heres the front suspension and steering

http://www.************************/BitMapPage.aspx?bitmapid=38&bitmapname=123+Front+Suspension

Otherwise give us a detailed description of the part, Who, how, when, why, where, etc.

Dave

I have a vague recollection of a thread from about six months ago in which an owner of a 300td stated that they have a unique engine shock which is no longer made? He had found one to replace his (I think) but stated it was the last one. I hope this is not true.

That was a 1981 300TD engine shock. I don't know what the outcome was.

Lightbulb engine strut

First thank you for replying so fast.

Now to the part I need the the piece that comes off the driver side of the engine block it attaches with four 17 mm nuts to the block. This part then extends from the engine and attaches to the motor mount with a allen head bolt through the mount. the engine shock then attaches to this piece.

sorry for no pic but my camera is not digital( yet! now i have a good excuse)

Its called a motor mount arm . The english call it a motor bearer.

Dave

Here is a picture of it. Bring it to the dealer and they will know what it is. Its item #3

You may have to, or may want to go to a Junk dealer for this. I don't know if Mercedes carries it. If they do its probably $$$. So a junk dealer will be helpful.

Just to make your life complicated. There are 3 different motor mount arms.
ACTUALLY I WILL CORRECT MYSELF. MERCEDES CALLS IS A "ENGINE CARRIER" IN THE MANUAL.

The left motor carrier is 1 model. The right motor carrier has 2 differnt versions. The early and late version. Your car being an 84 will have the later version. You can get the part number from Mercedes at the dealer and when you hunt around for it. Make sure it has the correct number stamped in it. Just in case you can't find a stamped number there are the two different kinds.

Dave

Below is the first version which you DO NOT want.

SD "engine carriers" are different and will not fit on the 300TD.
