Pressure in the coolent system??
Hi
when I was driving to work today I saw a Nice 80 300SD TD a sign was on it 200 takes it , I stoped and paid the guy, no rust to be seen yet, starts right up and goes forward, the interior needs a good washing and vacuuming it's pretty nice, So the problem is that it makes a very high pitch loud noise every few minutes ?(sounds like a weird alarm) The sound is alot of pressure coming out the the coolent tank cap, no water in the oil? but oil in the water ? so it sound like a head gasket to me , what do you guy's think, can the turbo some how force air in the coolent system with the 5cylinder turbo?? thanks 190e 16v 300SD TD Last edited by daveCT; 09-10-2003 at 12:14 AM. |

Sounds Like a head gasket or cracked head. Probably blown between the cylinder and the water jacket. This would explain why no water/oil mixing and why the rapid pressure buildup in the cooling system. I'm thinking that the leak is not that bad, but whenever the cylinder pressure builds to the point of 380 psi, it is enough to pressurize the cooling system through the gasket/crack. I would have it checked out immediatly. For what you paid for the car, you can afford to have it repaired.

D.McCarroll,
And imagine when the fuel ignites and the cylinder pressure goes to 3000 PSI. This is just a guess to illustrate how much higher the pressures are inside the cylinder when the fuel is burning. P E H |
