If you are in an area where Lucas Oil products are sold, I hear that their transmission product is just this ticket for this kind of problem. One quart of their product is added to the trans with the fresh fluid during a fluid/filter R&R service. I will likely be doing this next week.

Wow I was just searching for the same issue and found this one, being it is quite recent I suppose I'll chime in here.

The bottle of Trans-X I bought states 3oz per quart of ATF, I think I put in 21oz (a full quart is 32oz). It also says to run it for a hundred miles which I've already done, but then reduce it to 1.5oz/qt which I don't think I'll do. I've changed the tranny fluid last year, within the last 3000 miles but this flaring just needs to be fixed.

I agree very much with mplafluer, I'm quite sure I need a new vacuum valve but suprised after trying three used ones that none work any better! When you say it may be the rubber diaphram, is there any way to test it? It should be fine if it is just air tight right? Should I just replace it anyway?

When I first got the car I bought one of those lucas products (went to the store looking for Trans-X and come home with that, sigh), the fact that it flowed like tar at room temperature was just to much, I couldn't force myself to put that in. Not to plug any business or anything but AutoZone sells Trans-X.

I did buy the Trans-X from Murry's (large local auto parts chain) and put it in before handing the car over to the new owner. (Yes, he did know about the problem beforehand) I heard from my daughter that he loves the car but I don't know if the flaring has lessened.
