Hard brake pedal pressure on 240D

I just put new brake pads on the front of my girlfriend's daughters 1979 240D. The car stops wonderfully now, but requires what I consider to be a very very heavy pressure on the pedal to do so. Did I do something wrong? The brake fluid seemed to be at normal level when I finished, so I've checked that.

I've done the pads on my two 300SD's several times now, and never came across this issue.

Did you knock a vacuum line off? If so the brake booster won't work.

Also check your booster as well as your air pump and its lines.
