What part am I talkin about?
'82 240D
Some kind of electrical "thingamabob" that bolts to the tranny. It had a bolt through it and only one wire with a philips head screw holding it on the electrical "thingamabob". It goes into the tranny next to the bellhousing on the same side as the vacuum "thingamabob". What is it? I would attach a pic but I still haven't mastered the process yet. Oilslick P.S. Great Tranny Shop in Greenville, SC- Very reasonable! Complete rebuild for my tranny will cost $900.00. I bought a low mileage used one for way, way less! |

Neutral safety switch. Only lets the engine start if it's in N or P.

And, not all of these neutral saftey switches are created equal. The switch on the 1985 300D transmission that we installed in the horse with no name has a flat connector. The switch on the original 300TD transmssion has a round connector.

Single wire with a phillips screw?
Kickdown solenoid. Neutral safety switch is normally around the tranny lever, has a four wire (or more these days?) rubber plug, either flat or round. Peter

Thanks psfred
This thingamabob is on the opposite side from the shifting lever. I guess it is the kick down switch (solenoid). Thanks very much!
