Possible New Car 95 E300D

What can somone tell me about a 95 E300D. I want the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am not familiar with the newer cars, but this one looks beautiful.

I don’t have time to write a lengthy response right now, but there was a good thread here recently regarding the 123 vs. 124 chassis diesels.

That being said, I just bought a “new” ’95 E300D & love it! The engine characteristics are amazing, it’s similar to a gas engine where the powerband increases as the revs go up, kind of like a gas engine when it comes up on the cam. As compared to my 300D, this engine pulls hard for the (non-marked) redline rather than runs out of breath at higher RPM’s. The chassis is wonderful, as can be expected of any 124. NVH characteristics are a magnitude ahead of the older car, but I’m still keeping my 300D because I love its “character”.

One warning: like any used MBZ, get a Good One!

Glenn:

Thanks for the input. I looked at the car today and was a little disappointed. I found it on eBay and from what I was told it sounded excellent. The body was clean except some of the panels had been resprayed. The detail job was horrible at best. Some loose components under the hood made me think the manifold had been off. The big things were when you nailed the throttle, it would slide into the next gear. Some of the vaccum lines were removed from some modulator unit on the passenger side fender. Somethings not right. The car had no record of maintenance since 60K. The car had 116K and had been through two different auctions. Nice car all in all but I was on the high side and met his reserve, because he told me it was pristine, which it was not. He did not want to budge in price. I am now looking at an 92 with a 140K. The guy has taken meticulous care of. I just wonder what it is worth? He just put new injectors in it.
