Replacing Seat Belt 80 300sd

When I bought my 300sd (1980) many years ago, the drivers side seat belt would not retract so I had it replaced. It cost nearly $200 for the part and $80 for labor.

Now, it is hard to pull out. It goes a few inches, stops, and then when I jiggle it, it will go a few more inches. It is also not retracting anymore.

I was wondering if it is hard to replace one of these, and also, where would I find one. Searched on line this evening and could not find a new replacement seat belt.

Mine my be repairable but not sure because I have not taken it apart yet.

Any advice? Thanks

look under the parts section of the forum for a thread I started that was "'79 SD speedometer cable wanted". There is a guy getting ready to take his '79 to the junkyard, maybe he could hook you up. I haven't heard from him lately though, so I don't know what is going on with a couple parts i tried to get from him.
Thanks
David

Move the seat all the way fwd. If your SD is anything like my 123 the center post trim is held on with a couple small screws toward the bottem of the trim remove these, shide trim up and out . . The seat belt reel is held in by one large bolt which will be obvious when you get the trim off, fact is it will all be obvious and an easy job. If you get a replacement at the Pick & Pull you will really save some $

I got to thinking about this last night. What I did was swap out interiors so i changed the seat belt reel and the trim strip togather. I assume getteng the reel seperated from the trim strip would not be a problem but not sure.
