town ordinances

I am getting sick of getting charged money for town ordenences by town police.

I have been stopped twice by cops, although not for speeding above the limit, they pull me over because of "misuse of power". When I got pulled over it was because of "unnecessary maniacal acceleration". What happened was I accelerated from a stop onto a road, too fast.

I didn't even break the speed limit! In fact, I didn't even squeal the tires, or try to. Besides, I was only driving a diesel with 143 bhp and 195 lb/ft of torque. How fast could I be? :p

*Guys, watch out for cops around the NH seacost. They LOVE to grab W126 Mercedes. The W126 seems to be as much fun to grab as a two seater sports car. It's as if the cop caught a Mafioso.

Can you fight the tickits? How do the judge "misuse of power". I gun it and speed up to the limit all the time. I wonder if this thing exists in CT. That is some achievment with a diesel. Congradulations it must be running realy well!

Thanks. She burns no oil at 3,000 mile intervals, and is running like a top.

No smoke on full load either, and the EGR and ARV somehow became disabled.

I can't do anything about the tickets but just pay them. Fortunately these types of tickets do not go on my permanent record, and do not affect insurance as such.

We had some famous small towns here in Texas that were using tickets as the basis of their town's income. The legislature finally made it where they only got $5 out of any speeding ticket they wrote... that really helped....
Maybe it is time to check the situation in your state and file a complaint... get a movement going.. but a slow one so you don't get Another ticket...

Nazi Town

Another TX favorite especially in my little political berg "attempt to speed". Meant for those who gas to fast.

I think you should fight this one and let the judge decide the acceleration capabilities of you car. If money's not too tight, have a tech available as a witness to certify that you have not detuned your car. My guess is that the judge drives a Cadillac and will find the SDL sluggish. Or maybe your SDL is really hard off the line.

It IS oddly brutal off the line, and redline is set to an actual 5450 rpm(will not go above no matter what). I'm guessing an internal adjusment was made to give it the power it has. Maybe a little ALDA tweaking?

One thing's for sure, it goes through air filters fast. Only 10K miles and they're gone.

Guys, to me time is money. I'm just going to pay off the $48 and get on with my life. I don't care, its not a big deal. But they did waste my time by pulling me over.

I don't personally feel like dealing with the headaches of court. Since it isn't on my permanent record, I do not feel the need to detest it. Its still an inconvenience I could very well do without.

Learn where they like to wait. Take another road if you must. If you get pulled over again, calmly, ask him/her/it what is considered "unnecessary maniacal acceleration." A car thet can do 0-60 in 17 seconds is hardly fast at all, very slow to some. $48 per ticket is by no means cheap for this kind of (Hopefully) false tickets. Challenge it, something like this is very unreasonable if you were honestly NOT hard accelerating. If all else fails, bring it to the press. Let every news paper, judge, mayor, and person of power know what a rip this is.

I appreciate your strong support, and willing contribution of intuitive ideas of handling this situation. I will pay the $48, and complain like Hellfire to others about what I went through. Don't worry, its my personality that will spread the word.

Keep in mind though, my SDL is not slow. I hate slow cars, as they're too dangerous to merge into freeway traffic. I need cars that practically barrel into traffic when needed. Hence my stable of trusty steeds; V8's and oddball diesels(and one chipped, impecabbly maintained, six cylinder gasser).

Sixto, I believe you have a peppy SDL too, right? Be careful.

It's not peppy off the line by my book but it's not 17 seconds slow. Feels 14 seconds-ish to me but maybe because I haven't turned off the AC since I got the car (after driving for months with the ACC set at 54F in the S420, my wife was thrilled to find a MIN setting). The SD is harder off the line but runs out of breath relatively quickly. The SDL kind of lopes along until 2500rpm when it wakes up. I don't think I've ever seen 5000rpm. Mine must be the 3-sigma IP in a 6-sigma world

How far have you gotten? Have you tried keeping it in "2" or "3"?

Running at full load up a really steep hill is probably the best Italian tuneup you can do for that car. You would be amazed at all the garbage coming out of the tailpipes. It would be as if your diesel was the 300SDL Turbolaxxed!:p

I see ~4800rpm and it just hangs there. It's within spec so I haven't touched it. I have no reason to rev that high other than to rev that high

The amount of tickets cops give definitely depends on their departments budget. Out here in california, with all the budget mess, the cops have to make ticket quotas, so they're alot less likely to let you of with a warning, and alot more likely to pull people over for questionable things.
