Just a random question, I was checking out a 77 300D today, and when i looked underneath to check the CV boots, i noticed the differential cover had heat sinks on it. Does the diff get that hot? is this a feature on any other car, cuz i've never seen it before.

I'm guessing that those fins are there to provide some additional structural rigidity to the diff also.
