check valve for rear window washer in TD?

Hi,
Rear washer pumps but not to the glass. When I blow air with my compressor thru the line it acts clogged then I hear air hissing in either the top of the gate or in the rear ceiling area. Does anyone know if they used a checkvalve so fluid wouldn't drain back and where is it located? How do you remove the washer jet from the top of the gate? Any other suggestions? As always thanks for the help. Mike

They use a check valve and it's located near the jet inside the top of the tailgate. If I remember correctly you need to remove the trim at the inside top of the tailgate and the jet is held in with a screw on the inside. It's pretty tight in there and I found my hose was stiff so I had to be really careful not to loose the hose down the small access hole (you'll know what I mean when you see it). You might want to know though that I found after all my work to get the jet and check valve out that my blockage wasn't there. What I didn't do (and you should) is trace the line starting from the pump. You'll need to remove the panel just forward of the tool/resevoir compartment. I discovered the hose had somehow gotten pinched behind that panel. It looked fine and the only way I found the blockage was to cut the line as far up as I could and blow back toward the pump. Only then did I figure out where it was blocked. I used a simple connector I got from a McParts to put the hose back together and it's been fine since. It was one of those annoying jobs that you think will take 5-10 minutes and ends up taking an hour. Hope you have an easier time of it.

I had this problem a week back. What I found on my 83 300TDt was the check valve was under the passenger side rear cladding that fits over the tire well and rear seat belt attachement point. Had to remove that panel to get access.

Boiled and flushed the check valve which was clogged shut by washer fluid crystals.

Clue is when you hit the rear windsheild button you should get spray right away, if not and it takes 10 seconds the check valve is open, if nothing, then the check valve is stuck shut.
