I don't get that type of response from people.. my car is bright metallic red. I used to have a retired state police cruiser, a '98, white.. that always got the looks.

Try this. This is Quicktime, and the 0-60 is from a stop, rounding a corner. Takes about 9 seconds to get there. Remember, I do not believe in brake-torqueing. (of course I didn't apply full pedal around the corner!)

You know what I did? I replaced the old vinyl steering wheel and put in the new updated leather one from an '89 560SL. I just have to get a leather shift knob to complete the package! The leather wheel is smaller so you have virtually a more responsive car in the curves.

Hahehe, you know I got many responses telling me I was soft to say my SDL could sprint quickly. So I had to take a video to prove it. There, dieselers, there is your new "Eduardo"! Its the turbolag that kills my car initially!

Neat video. That SDL can move, especially from 30-50.

I notice we have similar taste in Mercedes. I have always wondered how the 300SE stacks up against the om603 126's. How do yours stack up? I once asked Sixto this and he said he thought the SDL was faster than his 300SE. I've been keeping my eye open for a diesel. Your thoughts?

The signal light blinks twice as fast as it should, but it is not burnt out. The connection is weak.

I posted the E420 too, and that is a 275 bhp 295 lb/ft of torque V8 gasser. 90% of peak torque is available practically off idle. The SDL keeps pace with the 420 30 - 55 mph (run the two videos side by side to know what I mean). That is EXTREMELY impressive for anyone who knows the M119.

As for the SE, well, the average SE couldn't keep up. This run was done, for both cars, without brake torqueing.

You ever notice how most SE's are dead off the line? Even in first they have trouble shifting the weight. Don't even get me started on some 300SEL's. You'd feel like your old '81 SD was quicker off the line (longer wheelbase, less seat in the pants feel)!

Some M103's are unusually quick, though. Just as unusual as my SDL.

Sixto says he believes his gets to 60 around 14 secs. Plantman's (formerly turbodiesel's) gets there in 12.



Its really the turbolag that kills these cars. If you were to braketorque these cars, it would be much better. Mine was not floored until after I got out of the corner. You can hear the tires chirping as I hit the gas, and as it shifts from 1st to 2nd.

For example, Plantman's SDL goes 80-90 mph in the same amount of time as turbodiesel's Crown Vic!

To be honest, I think my old 116 SD was better off the line than the SE. Not as fast, but more effortless in a way. Put three passengers in the SE with the AC on, and you are dead in the water.

as for the 400E - what a rocket. Underrated car performance wise. Around here all of the attention goes to the 500E guys. Needs way more tire though.

I have to agree on the M119's voice though! It sounds glorious on full throttle. Not the exhaust.. but the motor.. wow..
still can't get over it. Sounds like a proper V8 but more refined than Mustangs.

hhmm wonder what a W124 300D Turbo could do with a 'healthy' OM603 motor..

or a W124 with the OM606 Turbodiesel motor

The W116 SD has no pollution control device on it(no EGR). It has pretty surprising grunt off the line, and will haul with the rest of them without any trouble.

The 400E. Boy I loved that car. This was the car that introduced me to the M119.

As we were merging onto a highway in one at 40 mph, my dad floored it. I couldn't believe how fast it picked up speed! it finally changed gears at 82 mph, and sped past 100 mph like nothing.

My father, at the time, drove a manual 300E. When he would be doing about 75 - 80 in the 300E, he felt he would've been going 100 mph + in the 400!
The power was constantly rushing and pressing you back against the seat.

I wish the 606 turbodiesel was all mechanical like diesels of yester-year.

Again, about the voice of the M119. It actually doesn't sound much different than the M117. That's why I like it so much!:p
