One more idea, even if it won't net you any cash. How about GIVING it to a young relative. Maybe that high school age niece or nephew. Even better if you can make a gear-head out of them. Teach them how to work on it and properly care for it. You may even make a life-long MB diesel owner out of them. The car is simple enough for them to learn basic repairs and maintenance. You will be doing a big bit in protecting them. My daughter was in her '83 300D when she tangled with a full sized Dodge pickup (her fault). She won and she says she even lifted the truck off the ground at impact (low speed, thank heavens).
One more thing, if you do "give" it to a relative, actually "sell" it to them for say $100 ($1 a week for two years). Some states will charge sales tax at full book value if it is a pure gift vs. tax at sale price if you charge $100. Just tell the clerk it is an over 20 year old diesel if they question you. Before I give it to any charity and start a fight with the IRS (they know donations are a scam), I'd just as soon eat the small actual difference in cash and make some kid happy.

In PA if the car is given as a gift, there is no sales tax. If you give a car worth something to a stranger, they may not believe that it is a gift. Usually it only works for family members.

Other states may be the same.
