Unhappy Aaagh! Window glass came loose!

My front driver's side window glass just came loose from the metal bracket that holds on to it at the bottom. I've taken the bracket out and it's been rusted to pieces.

My mechanic says they usually send the glass and bracket to a glass shop and have them glued back together, but in this case it's not likely to hold very long due to all the rust and cracking in the bracket.

Apparently, you can't buy the bracket alone but have to buy it with a pane of glass already glued on (expensive). Since my glass is fine, does anyone here have ANY idea where I might get the bracket alone?

I would try a pull a parts type of place. The front windows should be the same in the four door as the wagon.

Around here it'll be nearly as expensive as a new part (if they have any that are in decent condition) and I don't really feel like driving all the way to LA just for that. Though I might have to anyway...

Can you post a picture of your bracket? I have welded some back together in the past with great success. If you can get it back together, all you have to do is install it without the glass in it and take it to a GlassPro type place where they will prime it and "glue" it in. It's not really glue, but a urethane made specifically for glass applications. Then you leave it up for 24 hours and you're set. If you can post a picture, I can judge whether it can be welded and fixed, and if you can't do it you could send it to me and I'll do it for you - you just pay the shipping. Alternatively, there is a good MB junk yard here and I may be able to find a replacement one for you for a better price than you can get there.

That urethane comes in a standard caulking size tube and the primer can also be gotten from 3M..... check with local paint and body shop suppliers in your area... or 3M online....

Thanks guys (especially bjcsc), but I ordered a new window. The bracket was WAY too rusted, and it was split apart along the bottom nearly the entire way and full of holes (I don't know how it was holding the window at all near the end there!). Far beyond any sort of rescue or my mechanic could have done it.

I decided that it just wasn't worth the trouble digging around in junkyards (or having others do it for me) and then waiting for days while my car has a gaping hole in it just to save 100 bucks. I'll leave my good glass with the mechanic in case one of his customers has the opposite problem some day... save someone else some money at least :-).
