Turbo removal and intake/exhaust manifold removal

I am trying to remove the turbo on my 84 300TD. I have been able to remove 3 of the 4 bolts that attach the turbo to the exhaust manifold. There is one bolt (bottom right if you are looking at the car on the turbo side) that is difficult to get to and I have stripped it pretty bad. I think the best way to get to it will be to remove the intake/exhaust manifold, thus removing the turbo and then I can get at it with a pair of vise-grips or something.

My questions are:
> Will I be able to remove the intake/exhaust manifold with the turbo still attached?
> Is there a better way to go at this?

I always remove the intake/exh manifold and then remove the turbo off of that assy.

Is there any trick to removing the exhaust/intake manifold? It looks like there are about 5 bolts that attach it to the motor. Once those are removed --> is it possible to just pull off the whole assembly (turbo and both manifolds) together? Any special tool you might recommend in breaking it loose from the motor?

The manifold fasteners are not really that tight. You will need to remove the turbo support at the flex hose section. They are kinda pia to get to.

There is one (or was it two ) bolts on the underside of the manifolds that are for support. I have got the turbo off without the manifolds before, it took 45 minutes to do it, but I got it off. Threre is also another bolt on the rear of the engine that holds the turbo oil line that must be removed.

Don't forget to give the intake a good cleaning while it is off to get all of the cr@p that the EGR deposited in there.
