plug light still blinks
after recently replacing the battery the glow plug light now blinks after startup.
I did the ohm test of the plugs per a search of the site. Rather than reading .4 to .8 like many indicate in previous threads the plugs read 0 ohms with the exception of one that read 130 and 1.2 (on a 200 scale) The new plugs that I installed also measured 0 out of the box. So now with two replaced all measure 0 ohms. I also measured voltage to each when turned on. All read 11 volts each. I cleaned the contacts on the 80amp link and the power supply to it. I still have the flashing light after start up. What do I do next? It starts fast (75deg f days 55 deg f nights) but does seem shaky untill warm. thanks Eric Z Chattanooga TN 79 300sd (pencil type plugs) |

Angst,
Your ohmeter just isn't sensitive enough to read 0.4 ohms. Do you have a needle (analog) type ohmeter? But 0 ohms is a good read for a good GP on the needle type meter. The 2 GP that read much higher resistance were no good and since you replaced them, the light should not blink. Did you remove the GP cable from the GP relay when you did the resistance test? You have to remove it to avoid getting parallel GP readings. If you didn't have the cable removed, try reading the resistances again with it removed. Plug you ohmeter lead into the GP cable connector holes to take the readings. You might find another bad GP or a bad connection to a GP. Its possible that your ohmeter is not sensitive enough to read low resistances. Did you turn it to its lowest scale? P E H |

thanks to PE for a reply.
For anyone searching old threads here is how it worked out. I went back through again this time I was on the ohmmeter setting 200 vs 200k. Anyone having trouble finding a bad plug might consider trying various meter settings. I sniffed out one more bad plug quickly and replaced it and the blinking problem has gone away. Eric z |
