Hello everyone,

I have ALL the oil leaks from my '82 240D stopped with the exception of ONE! The cyclonic oil separator tube that slips over the "pipe" sticking up from the oil pan is leaking. It's leaking significantly! If I install a new o-ring there but the leak persists what would be my next course of action.

Sounds like a stupid question but the engine has some blow-by issues and I didn't know but maybe the oil is being forced out of the tube possibly from a clog somewhere in the system.

The oil return pipe on the wifes Benz was so bad I replaced it with some heater hose and a couple clamps. I used a long enough hose that I could route it away from the exhaust and secure it with tie wraps so it woudn't rub on anything. No more leaks.

what size hose did you use, and about how long was it? My return pipe is jiggly and loose and leaks, hose seems like the best fix.

oilslick, I had the same problem on my 83 300sd. I spent so time looking at both ends of the drain pipe and figured out the bends were not right, so I took the pipe out of the engine area and held it by the two ends, streching it out a little at a time untill it fit tight in both the air cleaner and the sump. Hope this helps. steve

I am "chomping at the bit" to get out there today and fix this leak but I am a pastor so my Sunday's do not allow for "grease time".

I have a parts car way down in the back yard (has to be outta sight-the church provides the house and I don't want to make their property look too bad- The parts car is no beauty). I plan to remove the separator tube from it and install it on my car. I think mine is bent more-so than just a leaking o-ring. The reason I think so is because I replaced the thermostat this past Friday and I removed the oil separator for easier access to the thermo housing. I put a new o-ring on the end of the separator but when I put it back in teh tube I think I may have pressed down too hard therefore bending the entire tube somewhat. I think that's where my trouble has started.

If the replacement tube doesn't fix it then I WILL be going the heater hose route!

I just used hose I had in the garage, 5/8" I think, probable used 3 to 4 feet. I went from the oilpan, towards the fender to avoid the exhaust and turbo, then over to the air cleaner. Used plastic tie wraps to ensure it did not rub on anything as the motor ran.
