head gasket replacement
Can anyone direct to a good head gasket replacement thread?
1985 300td. Wonderring about leaving the manifolds on, getting the power steering bracket off, and doning all this without messing with the AC lines. thanks coleman BTW how long has this job taken people? roughly thanks

Book is probably 6-8 hrs.
The manual show removing with manifolds attached. I think that's poor unless you've got a cherry picker. Head is going to be heavy and is managable without the manifolds. No need to remove a/c lines. They remove from the mounting bolts and push out of the way. read the Factory manual. Michael

Just wondering, how heavy is "heavy"?
The heads on an IH 6.9l diesel are about 100lbs apiece; you literally need a cherry picker to remove them from the engine

Well- I don't know the weight.
I'm not mega strong and lifted the head. R&R with the extra manifolds also changes the cg making it harder to deal with. Michael
