85 300D Defroster blows full blast
I'm fairly sure that this is the way it should be but is there any way to rig the defroster to blow lower speeds (i.e. use the fan button to adjust the speed). It's too annoying to drive during the rainy season with the defroster on all time because it's blowing on high speed, but the windshield keeps fogging up otherwise.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just use the "UP" airflow button (arrow facing "up" is solid white, arrow facing down is only outlined in white), then you can adjust the speed and temp in the normal way.

Maybe try the Rain-X which is formulated to reduce fogging (it's applied to the inside). I wonder how well it works...

No, I don't believe that's true. Check your owners manual or better yet try it.

the defrost rain x stuff works good. I live in califonia so we have mild winters, i am not sure how it would work in extreme winter areas.

Hi
I forgot, on my 123 chassis cd roms they have an owners manual on the disc, so I checked it out. The owners amnual they use actually is a 85 300D manual, so should be just like yours. On page 31 it says to use the button with the up AND down in solid white for normal defogging. If you get no airflow out of the defogger vents in this position you have a problem. Gilly |

I didn't realise that you could push two buttons at once on the panel. I have the actual owners manual, maybe I should have read it more carefully. I will read it next and hopefull it'll work. I'll give it a try tomorrow morning.
Thanks! DJ

NO, not 2 buttons. The ONE button that has the 2 (solid) white arrows, one pointing up, one pointing down.
Gilly PS LOOK at the owners manual, page 31, it's explained there and a picture of the button |

Just read it. Interestingly though, it says to reset it to one of the other settings as soon as possible.

I was hoping that I could just leave it on that setting and not have to keeping pushing anymore buttons as I drive. I'm just trying to keep the distractions at a minimum and my eyes on the road. Well there's one small drawback in owning this Benz. I don't think I'll be driving this car when the roads start getting icy anyway. No 2nd gear starts and no ABS. Very likely I'll be back to driving the SUV fairly soon.
