92 300D 2.5 Ignition Problem

Just recieved a call from the boss, says she can't start the car. Went through the whole story about turning the wheel while turning the key, make sure it is in park discussion. She says she can turn the wheel but can't start the car. I have had a small problem with the key myself, but to admit that would perjure myself if you know what I mean. I Talked to Phil and ordered the switch, lock cylinder, lock cover, and housing. After having another long discussion with the wife about an extra key on the key ring because the lock cylinder was different even though she has 50 keys on her ring I gave up the fight. I called Phil and canceled the lock cylinder for $75.00 so I could pay $101.00 from Mercedes so the keys would be the same. (Some things are not worth fighting over because if it involves a woman or has wheels it is sure to give you problems) Question how do go about getting to all these pieces, and how should I go about to get the antitheft collar off?

If the starter isn't engaging at all, don't rule out the possibility of the neutral safety switch. Happened to me!

Thanks for the reply.
No, it is more mechanical, as you can't turn the key to engage the starter. It may be in the lock tumbler, but I figured I would not take a chance, just replace the lock housing and components.

Try using the least used key. Such as the valet key. My ignition tumbler went bad and using a worn key will not allow it to turn, but a sharp key will. Also turn the key as far as it will allow, pull the key out as far as you can (it will only be a few mm of movement) and then continue turning the key. This was the trick to my car before I could get the tumbler replaced.

When you order a tumbler set with the VIN number, the key is the same.
