Adjustable Rear Seats in a 300SDL - Is that rare ?
Were adjustable rear seats in a 86 300SDL a rare option ? Did they go by the name "Ferraro seats...." or something like that ?

Many of the SDLs I see don't have reclining rear seats so I think it's a rare option. It's certainly not rare in 500SELs and 560SELs.
I think many MB seats or seat components are made by Recaro. I remember seeing the Recaro logo stamped into the foam of a 190E rear seat back. I haven't checked my cars. Maybe you're thinking of a 4 seat option as was available in the 560SEL? I've never seen that configuration in an SDL. Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

I believe that they were in most SDL models, also most SEL models. These are sold as limosines in Europe.

For every three SDL's I see, one of them usually has reclining rear seats. My '85 280SEL had that option. It also had burlwood, and the city/highway twin-horns setup. Know what's really rare in an SDL? Getting the reclining seats, heated seats all round, and leather steering wheel and shift. I saw a car like that once on ebay. I wish my car had those options.

I haven't seen an SDL that does have the reclining seats yet. I'm looking to replace the all the seats in mine with 89-90+ style seats, reclining if possible.

I've read that the reclining seats were standard on the 560SEL and optional on other SEL/SDL models.

Very rare, I've only seen it a few times. Maybe 1 out of 5. Tom Sweeny on this board has heated front and rear and reclined rear seats.. very rare.

As far as the 560SEL's go, I think they came fully loaded. I have never seen a 560 without the reclining seats, heated seats, dual horns, burlwood, leather shift and wheel, and rear footrests. Wow...!
Not to mention the standard hydropneumatic suspension. The reclining seats are neat because the big bench seat comes out like a mattress. It feels like it too. Kind of like those reclining beds you see on television. Hmmm... What was the name? Somebody has a 300SDL for sale on ebay with a lot of videos depicting its features. One of them is reclining seats. Here's a clip. Click Here

John is correct. My '86 SDL has heated seats front and rear as well as the reclining rear seat. Very comfortable!
