Cam/Valve Cover Stuck
The cam cover on my '87 300TD is bonded on. I have tried rocking, gentle taps with my rubber faced mallet, to no avail. Not wanting to break it or unnecessarily mar the surface of the head I am looking for suggestions . . .
Thanks Steve |

Not implying that you have not already done this, but make sure all the bolts are out. A stupid suggestion but better safe than sorry. Take a piece of wood, find a good edge to rest it against, then take a small sledge and give it a quick hard whack. You will not damage anything or deform the cover as long as you use prudent force.

HGV,
Thanks. I agree with making certain the bolts are all out. I almost added that in my original post . . . I have had lots of experiences with inexpensive, thin stock, covers resting on cast iron and have no fear. As you know, this one is different. All of my tasks have been eye-openers. Thanks again for the advice. Steve |

Echo that response. I believe it is four 13 mm bolts, and use a rubber mallet or soft wood to strike the cover. Eventually it is easier when you have removed all the other linkages as well.
