W115 Oil Pan Plug
Hey guys,
My W115 220D is fitted with an allen oil plug. I dont have the car with me, and I need to go buy an allen wrench. Any one know the size of the wrench I need off hand? |

17MM, Cazz. I had 5 220Ds. Great cars. Now I have a '69 230/8 with an M180 engine. Same type drain plug; use the same wrench.

Thanks, Calvin. I just picked one up at the local car parts shop for $6. Apparently, 17MM allen is the universal american and european transmission plug, too. Also common on various differentials.
Very resourceful of Mercedes to use the allen plug in an oil pan -- less tools needed for servicing fluids, and less likely to strip the plug during removal. |

Whoops!
Just an update -- my plug is not 17mm. Havent figured it out yet, but I would guess 14-15mm. Mabye it is not the OE plug? |

Both my W123s have hex headed oil drains but I believe that the diff plugs on the W123s are 14mm.

I believe that the correct size is 14mm. Tried to check this, but did find that the offset flat wrench with the two hex stubs in the 190Db tool kit is listed as 14mm. I'm pretty sure that I moved it to the 220D/8 when it was bought and used it on that car as well. Hope that is helpful.
