Junkyard story

I may have struck out in the alternator department, but I did make some great finds yesterday.

Driver's carpet w/ perfect molded rubber pad: $2.99
Complete, working glove box door w/ perfect wood trim: $2.99 + .50 core
Complete manual heater control panel $6.49 + $1.00 core
Rear window drefoster switch: $1.99
Passenger's corner wood piece (perfect!): No charge.
And the piece de resistance: 4 excellent steel wheels at $4.99 each. My car came from New York City, so all the wheels are horribly bent.

Now here's the fun part. The wheels had tires on them and they charged me $7.99 each for those ratty tires. I put the whole kit and kaboodle in the Jetta and headed over to the tire store. Had those tires changed out for a brand new set of Kumho's for $243 and told them to save the old tires for me. They thought I was nuts. Took the new wheels/tires and dropped them off at home, then went back to the tire store. Every employee in the place came out to watch me put those old nasty tires in the trunk of my car. Took them back to the junkyard and they gave me back $35.16.

The guy asked me to put them in the "cores" bin, and while I was carrying them over some guy came up to me and asked if I was buying those tires - he wanted them! AFAIK, he ended up buying them from the junkyard, so I guess they were worth 8 bucks a piece after all.
