new head new noise
REplaced the head on my 85 300 td successfully(?) runs well, and I have what I think is nailing happening. WIll these motors run so well with the cam chain off one tooth? Maybe I skipped a valve adjustment (one of them)
What's next. thanks guys, coleman

It will run, but not very well. Just check it just like you would the chain for stretch. Pull off the camshaft, align the marks and read the corresponding mark on the harmonic balancer. I'm sure it'll be easy to see whether it is one tooth off as I believe one tooth is 18*.

new head new noise cure
THanks everyone, turns out I used an injector from the SD head that I out in that are a bit bigger that the tdt originals. So it was nailing like crazy.
Runs tops now. I used the crack the line method to figure this out by the way.
