idle adjust knob 82 240d
the little knob on the dash does not turn in either direction. it would be nice to see if it helps during this cold weather. can anyone give me any tips on how to get this unstuck. it feels like it will break if i force it. help!

rodsob, i push down on the accelerator pedal while turning my adjustment knob counter clock wise, this seems to lesson the stress on the knob, hope this helps......:p

Hood
You need to raise the hood and check the cable where it connects to a mechanism that is mounted to the valve cover...have a assistant turn it while you watch and see if it is trying to turn...

Should your investigation prove that the cable refuses to budge, the entire assembly -- cable, housing, and screw -- is easy to replace and not too expensive. I've had to replace the assembly on two of the three MB diesels I've owned. The third, an '85 300D, is not equipped with this feature.

Actually, if you REALLY want to go the cheap route, you can remove the little metal cover from the dashboard side of the cable after removal from the dash. You can then clean out the hardened lithium grease, and apply new. Reassemble everything, and it'll work just fine then.
